বাংলা সাহিত্যে গদ্যের জনক হিসেবে খ্যাত ঈশ্বরচন্দ্র বিদ্যাসাগরের বাংলা ভাষায় রচিত প্রথম মৌলিক পদ্য রচনা হচ্ছে ‘প্রভাবতী সম্ভাষ’ (১৮৯২)। তার অন্যান্য রচনার মধ্যে ‘বেতাল পঞ্চবিংশতি’, ‘শকুন্তলা’, ‘সীতার বনবাস’, ‘ভ্রান্তিবিলাস’প্রভৃতি প্রধান।
