পভাষা প্রমিত ভাষার (Standard Language) পাশাপাশি প্রচলিত অঞ্চলবিশেষের জনগোষ্ঠী কর্তৃক ব্যবহূত আঞ্চলিক ভাষা। পৃথিবীর সর্বত্রই প্রমিত ভাষার পাশাপাশি এক বা একাধিক আঞ্চলিক ভাষা বা উপভাষা (Dialect) ব্যবহূত হয়ে থাকে। প্রমিত ভাষার সঙ্গে উপভাষার ব্যবধান ধ্বনি, রূপমূল, উচ্চারণ ও ব্যাকরণগত কাঠামোর মধ্যে নিহিত থাকে।
