The name coronavirus comes from the Latin word corona, meaning crown or halo. They can infe both animals and people, and can cause illnesses of the respiratory tract, ranging from the comm cold to dangerous conditions. Coronaviruses were first identified in the 1960s. A novel coronavin identified by Chinese authorities on January 7 and named 2019-nCoV, is a new strain that had n been previously identified in humans. Little is known about it, although human-to-hum transmission has been confirmed. 

Current situations in China: An international outbreak of respiratory illness caused by a novel coronavirus has killed many people and sickened according to the Chinese health authorities. The outbreak began in Wuha China, apparently at a market selling live poultry, seafood and wild animals. Now the virus he turned up in more than a dozen other countries, including Japan, South Korea, France, Australia an the United States. Officials in China have closed transportation links from and within Wuhan an other affected cities. Schools have been closed in affected regions. Major attractions, festivals an movie theaters have been closed down, and sales of tourist packages from China to other countrie have been halted. 

How is it transmitted? The Wuhan coronavirus is most likely transmitted through coughing and sneezing, as is the ca with influenza and other respiratory viruses. Scientists are scrambling to understand how easily the virus is transmitted. 

What are the symptoms: According to the WHO, signs of infection include fever, cough, shortness of breath and breathm difficulties. In more severe cases, it can lead to pneumonia, severe acute respiratory syndrom kidney failure and even death. The incubation period of the coronavirus remains unknown. Some sources say it could be between 10 and 14 days.
