Conjunction

একাধিক sentences, clauses, phrases অথবা words সংযোগকারী শব্দকে Conjunction বলে । অর্থ ও পরিস্থিতিভেদে বিভিন্ন Conjunctions বিভিন্নভাবে ব্যবহৃত হয়।

Example: as,since,while,and,but,although,Othrewise,or,neverthlessunless,in case,as soon as,becouse,as if,so that etc.

Conjunction (Con = একত্রে, Junction = সংযোগ) হলো এমন একটি শব্দ যা দুটি শব্দ (Words), শব্দসমষ্টি (Phrases) বা বাক্যাংশকে (Clauses) একত্রে যুক্ত করে। একে ইংরেজিতে 'Linking Word' বা 'Connector'-ও বলা হয়।

১. মূল বৈশিষ্ট্যসমূহ:

এটি বাক্যের বিভিন্ন অংশের মধ্যে সেতুবন্ধন তৈরি করে।
এটি বাক্যকে সংক্ষিপ্ত ও শ্রুতিমধুর করতে সাহায্য করে।
এটি কেবল দুটি অংশকে যুক্তই করে না, বরং তাদের মধ্যে যৌক্তিক সম্পর্কও তৈরি করে।

২. Conjunction-এর প্রকারভেদ:

গঠন ও ব্যবহারের ওপর ভিত্তি করে Conjunction-কে প্রধানত তিন ভাগে ভাগ করা যায়:

ক) Coordinating Conjunction:

এই ধরনের Conjunction দুটি সমজাতীয় বা স্বাধীন বাক্যকে যুক্ত করে। এগুলো মনে রাখার সহজ কৌশল হলো FANBOYS:

For (কারণ)
And (এবং)
Nor (না)
But (কিন্তু)
Or (অথবা)
Yet (তবুও)
So (তাই)

উদাহরণ:

Rahim and Karim are good friends.
He is poor but honest.
Do or die.

খ) Subordinating Conjunction:

এই Conjunction-গুলো একটি স্বাধীন বাক্যের (Principal Clause) সাথে একটি নির্ভরশীল বাক্যের (Subordinate Clause) সম্পর্ক তৈরি করে। এগুলো মূলত সময়, কারণ, শর্ত বা ফলাফল বোঝাতে ব্যবহৃত হয়।

Examples: Because, Since, As, If, Although, Though, While, Until, Unless, Before, After.

উদাহরণ:

I could not go because I was ill.
If you study hard, you will pass.
Wait here until I come back.

গ) Correlative Conjunction:

এগুলো সবসময় জোড়ায় জোড়ায় (In pairs) ব্যবহৃত হয়। একটি বাক্যের দুটি ভিন্ন অংশকে পরস্পর যুক্ত করতে এদের প্রয়োজন হয়।

Either... or (হয় এটা, নয় ওটা)
Neither... nor (এটাও না, ওটাও না)
Both... and (উভয়ই)
Not only... but also (কেবল এটিই নয়, ওটিও)

উদাহরণ:

Either you or your brother has done this.
He is not only a teacher but also a writer.

৩. সাধারণ কিছু Conjunction-এর ব্যবহার:

And	একই ধরণের তথ্য যুক্ত করতে।	She bought a pen and a book.
But	বিপরীত কিছু বোঝাতে।	He worked hard but failed.
Or	বিকল্প কিছু বেছে নিতে।	Is it tea or coffee?
Although / Though	সত্য হওয়া সত্ত্বেও বিপরীত ফলাফল বোঝাতে।	Though he is rich, he is unhappy.
Lest	পাছে ভয় হয় এমন কিছু বোঝাতে।	Walk fast lest you should miss the train.

বাক্যে যদি দেখেন কোনো শব্দ দুটি আলাদা ভাবকে জোড়া দিচ্ছে, তবে সেটিই Conjunction। মনে রাখবেন, Preposition কোনো Noun-এর আগে বসে সম্পর্ক দেখায়, কিন্তু Conjunction পুরো দুটি বাক্য বা অংশকে যুক্ত করে।
