Read the passage carefully and answer the questions no. 1, 2 and 3:

Humans can neither change the sun's radiation nor the earth's orbit around the sun. But they can control the increase in the amount of greenhouse gases and its effect on the atmosphere. Only during the last hundred years the carbon dioxide concentration has been raised alarmingly in the atmosphere and we humans can be held responsible for this.

The main cause of the increase in carbon dioxide level in the atmosphere is the burning of fossil fuels. Since the end of the 19th century, industrial activities increased rapidly giving rise to many factories. These factories required energy, which was produced through the combustion of coal. Besides coal, other resources of energy such as mineral oil and natural gas were also burned to heat our houses, run cars and airplanes or to produce electricity. Nowadays, about 85 million barrels of crude oil are burned daily. Every time a fossil raw material is burned, it releases carbon dioxide into the air.

Therefore, it is clear that more and more greenhouse gases like carbon dioxide are being generated worldwide by humans. Moreover, we are also strengthening the greenhouse effect by deforestation, which means cutting down trees. Every year enormous areas of forests are destroyed by people to obtain wood and to clear regions of mining and to create pasture. This loss of the forest causes dual problems. Trees that are burned up release large volumes of carbon dioxide gas into the air. On the other hand, as forests absorb a lot of carbon dioxide from the air and deliver oxygen instead, we also destroy an important storehouse of carbon dioxide when we clear forests.

উত্তরঃ We are responsible for the increase of greenhouse gases primarily through the burning of fossil fuels for energy, industrial activities, and the clearing of forests which reduces the absorption of carbon dioxide.

Greenhouse gases, such as carbon dioxide, methane, and nitrous oxide, naturally trap heat in the Earth's atmosphere, a process vital for maintaining a habitable temperature. However, human activities have significantly increased the concentration of these gases. The primary culprits include the combustion of fossil fuels (coal, oil, and natural gas) for electricity generation, transportation, and industrial processes, which releases vast amounts of carbon dioxide. Additionally, deforestation contributes to the problem by reducing the number of trees that absorb CO2 from the atmosphere, while agricultural practices and industrial processes release other potent greenhouse gases like methane and nitrous oxide. These collective human actions are the main drivers behind the accelerated greenhouse effect and global warming.

উত্তরঃ

The primary cause of the increase in carbon dioxide levels in the atmosphere is the burning of fossil fuels such as coal, oil, and natural gas.

These activities, extensively carried out for electricity generation, industrial processes, and transportation, release vast quantities of carbon dioxide, a major greenhouse gas, into the atmosphere. Additionally, deforestation contributes significantly as trees absorb CO2, and their removal or burning reduces this natural carbon sink.

According to the text (which is not provided here, but is implied), the specific quantity of crude oil burned daily would be mentioned. Generally, the burning of crude oil, a fossil fuel, releases various pollutants and greenhouse gases into the atmosphere, causing significant environmental damage.

The combustion of crude oil in engines and power plants primarily releases carbon dioxide (CO2), a major greenhouse gas responsible for global warming and climate change. Besides CO2, it also emits sulfur dioxide (SO2), nitrogen oxides (NOx), carbon monoxide (CO), and particulate matter, which contribute to air pollution.

These emissions lead to several adverse environmental effects. Sulfur dioxide and nitrogen oxides are precursors to acid rain, harming forests, aquatic ecosystems, and infrastructure. Particulate matter can cause respiratory problems in humans and reduce visibility. Overall, the extensive burning of crude oil contributes to smog formation, ozone depletion, and the acceleration of climate change, leading to rising sea levels, extreme weather events, and biodiversity loss.

উত্তরঃ

Trees are called an "important storehouse of carbon dioxide" because they absorb large quantities of it from the atmosphere for photosynthesis, storing carbon within their biomass.

During the process of photosynthesis, trees absorb carbon dioxide from the atmosphere through their leaves. This absorbed carbon dioxide is then converted into organic compounds, such as glucose, which is used to build the tree's structure (wood, leaves, roots). By storing carbon in their trunks, branches, and roots, trees effectively sequester a significant amount of carbon dioxide for decades or even centuries. This crucial role in removing and storing atmospheric carbon dioxide helps to mitigate climate change and maintain environmental balance.

উত্তরঃ

To keep the atmosphere normal for our living, a multi-faceted approach involving individual actions, community efforts, and governmental policies is crucial. Primarily, we must focus on reducing pollution, especially the emission of greenhouse gases like carbon dioxide, methane, and nitrous oxide, which trap heat and lead to global warming. This can be achieved by transitioning from fossil fuels to renewable energy sources such as solar, wind, and hydropower, both in industries and for domestic use.

Furthermore, promoting afforestation and preventing deforestation are vital steps. Trees act as natural carbon sinks, absorbing carbon dioxide from the atmosphere and releasing oxygen. Encouraging public transportation, cycling, and walking instead of relying solely on private vehicles can significantly cut down vehicular emissions. Proper waste management, including reducing consumption, reusing items, and recycling materials, minimizes landfill waste and prevents the release of harmful gases from decomposition or incineration.

Educating people about environmental conservation and the long-term impacts of atmospheric degradation is also essential. Raising awareness about sustainable practices, conserving energy, and adopting eco-friendly lifestyles can empower individuals to make responsible choices. Lastly, strict implementation of environmental protection laws and international cooperation are necessary to ensure a collective effort towards maintaining a healthy and stable atmosphere for present and future generations.
