The given lines mean that when we're successful and genorous to others, people are more likely to support us and want to be around us. But when it comes to death, it's a journey we must take alone. No one can share that final experience with us.

According to the poem "Stopping by Woods on a Snowy Evening", the poet stopped by the woods though it was dark and he was alone, because he discovered the beauty of darkness there and wanted to enjoy the moment.
