The Tense (Corrections) হলো ইংরেজি বাক্যে ক্রিয়াপদের (Verb) সময় বা কালগত ভুলগুলো চিহ্নিত করে সঠিক রূপটি বসানো। এটি বাক্যের অর্থ স্পষ্ট করে, যেমন "He go" না হয়ে হবে "He goes" (Present Simple) বা "He went" (Past Simple)। সঠিক Tense ব্যবহারের মাধ্যমে ঘটনার সময় (অতীত, বর্তমান, ভবিষ্যৎ) এবং ধারাবাহিকতা বজায় রাখা হয়।

ইংরেজি গ্রামারে বাক্য গঠনের সময় Tense-এর সঠিক রূপ ব্যবহার না করা একটি সাধারণ ভুল। বিশেষ করে প্রতিযোগিতামূলক পরীক্ষায় Tense-এর প্রয়োগ থেকে অনেক প্রশ্ন আসে। নিচে গুরুত্বপূর্ণ নিয়ম ও সংশোধনীগুলো আলোচনা করা হলো:

১. চিরন্তন সত্য ও অভ্যাসগত কর্ম (Universal Truth & Habitual Fact):

বাক্যটি যদি চিরন্তন সত্য বা অভ্যাসগত কোনো কাজ বোঝায়, তবে তা সর্বদা Present Indefinite Tense হবে, অন্য কোনো Tense নয়।

• ভুল: The sun rose in the east.

• সঠিক: The sun rises in the east.

• ভুল: He said that honesty was the best policy.

• সঠিক: He said that honesty is the best policy.

২. Since ও For-এর ব্যবহার (Present Perfect Continuous):

সময়ের উল্লেখ থাকলে (যেমন: সকাল থেকে, দুই ঘণ্টা ধরে) সাধারণ Continuous Tense না হয়ে Present Perfect Continuous Tense হয়।

• ভুল: It is raining since morning.

• সঠিক: It has been raining since morning.

• ভুল: I am reading in this school for five years.

• সঠিক: I have been reading in this school for five years.

৩. অতীতকালে দুটি কাজের উল্লেখ (Past Perfect):

অতীতকালে দুটি কাজ সম্পন্ন হয়ে থাকলে যেটি আগে ঘটে সেটি Past Perfect এবং যেটি পরে ঘটে সেটি Past Indefinite হয়। এক্ষেত্রে 'Before' এবং 'After'-এর নিয়মটি অত্যন্ত গুরুত্বপূর্ণ।

• ভুল: The train left before we reached the station.

• সঠিক: The train had left before we reached the station.

• ভুল: The doctor had come after the patient died.

• সঠিক: The doctor came after the patient had died.

৪. ভবিষ্যৎ নির্দেশক শব্দ ও শর্তাধীন বাক্য (Future Context):

যদি কোনো বাক্যে tomorrow, next day ইত্যাদি থাকে তবে তা Future Indefinite হয়। তবে 'If' বা 'When' যুক্ত শর্তাধীন অংশে Future Tense না হয়ে Present Indefinite হয়।

• ভুল: If he will come, I will go.

• সঠিক: If he comes, I will go.

• ভুল: I shall wait until he will finish his work.

• সঠিক: I shall wait until he finishes his work.

৫. Sequence of Tense (টেন্সের ধারাবাহিকতা):

Principal Clause যদি Past Tense-এ থাকে, তবে Subordinate Clause-টিও সাধারণত Past Tense-এ পরিবর্তিত হয়।

• ভুল: He said that he is busy.

• সঠিক: He said that he was busy.

• ভুল: I knew that he will pass.

• সঠিক: I knew that he would pass. (Will-এর পরিবর্তে would বসে)।

৬. কিছু বিশেষ শব্দের ক্ষেত্রে Tense:

বাক্যে just, just now, already, yet, lately, recently ইত্যাদি থাকলে সাধারণত Present Perfect Tense হয়।

• ভুল: I saw him just now.

• সঠিক: I have seen him just now.

• ভুল: Did you ever be to London?

• সঠিক: Have you ever been to London?
