সাধারণ Preposition গুলো হচ্ছে: at above, across. against, among, after, before, beside below, behind, beyond, between, by, down, for, from, in, into, like, near, of, on, over, outside, out, since, to, towards, through, up, upon, with, within, without.

Preposition-এর প্রকারভেদ :

গঠন, কার্য এবং ব্যবহারের ভিত্তিতে Preposition-কে ছয় ভাগে ভাগ করা হয়। যথা :

i. Simple Preposition

ii. Double Preposition

iii. Compound Preposition

iv. Phrase Preposition

v. Participle Preposition and

vi. Disguised Preposition.

Preposition-এর প্রকারভেদ:

ব্যবহার ও গঠনের ওপর ভিত্তি করে Preposition-কে কয়েক ভাগে ভাগ করা যায়:

ক) Simple Preposition:

একটি মাত্র শব্দ দিয়ে গঠিত Preposition।

• Examples: In, On, At, By, For, From, Out, To, Up, With.

• Example: The book is on the table.

খ) Double Preposition:

দুটি Simple Preposition যুক্ত হয়ে একটি নতুন Preposition গঠন করলে।

• Examples: Into (In+to), Within (With+in), Onto (On+to), Without.

• Example: He walked into the room.

গ) Compound Preposition:

সাধারণত Noun, Adjective বা Adverb-এর আগে কোনো Preposition যুক্ত হয়ে এগুলো গঠিত হয়।

• Examples: About, Across, Among, Between, Beside, Before.

• Example: Divide the sweets between the two brothers.

ঘ) Phrase Preposition:

দুই বা ততোধিক শব্দ একত্রে একটি Preposition-এর মতো কাজ করলে।

• Examples: In front of, In spite of, Instead of, Because of, On account of.

• Example: He stood in front of the gate.

ঙ) Participle Preposition:

যখন কোনো Present বা Past Participle (Verb+ing/V3) বাক্যে Preposition হিসেবে ব্যবহৃত হয়।

• Examples: Regarding, Considering, Following, Given.

• Example: I know nothing regarding this matter.

সময় ও স্থানের ক্ষেত্রে সাধারণ ব্যবহার (At, In, On):

কিছু বিভ্রান্তিকর Preposition-এর পার্থক্য:

• Between vs Among:

  • 'Between' ব্যবহৃত হয় দুইজনের মধ্যে। (Example: Divide it between Rahim and Karim.)

  • 'Among' ব্যবহৃত হয় দুইয়ের অধিক বা অনেকের মধ্যে। (Example: Distribute it among the students.)

• In vs Into:

  • 'In' দিয়ে ভেতরে স্থির অবস্থান বোঝায়। (Example: He is in the office.)

  • 'Into' দিয়ে বাইরে থেকে ভেতরে প্রবেশের গতি বোঝায়। (Example: He ran into the house.)

• Beside vs Besides:

  • 'Beside' মানে পাশে। (Example: Sit beside me.)

  • 'Besides' মানে এ ছাড়াও। (Example: Besides English, he speaks French.)

Appropriate Preposition:

ইংরেজি গ্রামারে কিছু নির্দিষ্ট শব্দের পর নির্দিষ্ট প্রিপজিশনই বসে, যা অর্থপূর্ণ বাক্য গঠনে সহায়ক।
