Once upon a time, there was a king called Midas. He was very rich and he always longed for more riches. Moreover, he was fond of gold though he had a lot of it. One day, a kind fairy appeared before him and offered to grant him a wish. Without thinking, Midas eagerly wished that everything he touched would turn to gold. The fairy granted his wish, and Midas was overjoyed.

At first, he touched objects around his palace—chairs, tables, and even his crown—and they all turned to gold. His heart was filled with joy as he imagined how much wealth he would now have. But soon, his excitement turned into horror when he touched his food and it turned into solid gold. Unable to eat or drink, he grew desperate.

To make matters worse, when his beloved daughter, who had come to visit him, ran into his arms, she too turned into a golden statue. Midas was devastated and realized the terrible mistake he had made. He cried out in regret, wishing to undo his wish.

The fairy, hearing his sorrow, appeared again and told him that he could reverse the spell. Midas was instructed to wash in the river and everything would be returned to normal. He did so, and his daughter and everything else returned to their previous state. From that day on, King Midas learned that wealth and gold could not bring happiness and that greed could have terrible consequences. He became a wiser king, always valuing love and kindness over material riches.
