Read the passage and answer the question A

The orphanage is high in the Carolina Mountains. I was there in autumn. I wanted quiet isolation to do some troublesome writing. I wanted mountain air to blow out the malaria from too long a time in the sub tropics. I was homesick too, for the flaming of maples in October, and for cornshocks and pumpkins and black-walnut trees. I found them all living in a cabin belonged to the orphanage, half a mile beyond the orphanage farm. When I took the cabin, I asked for a boy or man to come and chop wood for the fire place. I looked up from my typewriter one late afternoon, a little startled. A boy stood at the door and my pointer dog, my companion, was at his side and had not barked to warn me. The boy was probably twelve years old but undersized. He wore overalls and a torn shirt and was barefooted. He said, "I can chop some wood today." "You? But you're small." "Size don't matter chopping wood," he said. "Some of the big boys don't chop good. I've been chopping wood at the orphanage a long time." "Very well, there's the axe. Go ahead and see what you can do."

I went back to work closing the door __________ He began to chop. The blows were rhythmic and steady and shortly I had forgotten him, the sound no more of an interruption than a consisted rain. I suppose an hour and half passed and I heard the boy's steps on the cabin stoop . The boy said, "I have to go to supper now." He said, "I can come again tomorrow." I said, "I'll pay you now for what you have done." thinking I should probably have to insist on an older boy __________ We went together back of the cabin. An astonishing amount of wood had been cut ________ "But you've done as much as a man." I said, "This is a splendid pile."

উত্তরঃ

The statement implies that skill, experience, and determination are more important than physical size or initial physical attributes when performing a task.

In the given passage, the narrator initially judges the boy based on his small stature, doubting his ability to chop wood effectively. However, the boy's statement, "Size don't matter chopping wood," is proven true through his actions. He demonstrates remarkable skill, steady effort, and prior experience, ultimately chopping an astonishing amount of wood, comparable to that of a man. This highlights the theme that practical ability, dedication, and past experience often supersede physical appearance or conventional expectations in determining one's capability to perform a task well, reinforcing that true competence lies beyond mere physical dimensions.

উত্তরঃ The writer went to the Carolina Mountains for quiet isolation to do some troublesome writing, to blow out the malaria from too long a time in the sub tropics, and due to homesickness for the autumn scenery like flaming maples, cornshocks, pumpkins, and black-walnut trees.

The passage clearly outlines several compelling reasons for the writer's visit to the Carolina Mountains. Firstly, the writer sought a peaceful and secluded environment, or "quiet isolation," primarily to focus on "troublesome writing." Secondly, the mountain air was desired for its therapeutic qualities, specifically to "blow out the malaria" that had resulted from an extended period spent in subtropical regions. Lastly, the writer was experiencing "homesickness," longing for the distinct beauty of autumn, characterized by the vibrant "flaming of maples," "cornshocks," "pumpkins," and "black-walnut trees."

The writer was startled because he unexpectedly found a young boy standing at his door, and more surprisingly, his pointer dog, which was his companion and usually barked to warn him of visitors, was silently by the boy's side without giving any alert.

The writer was deeply engaged in his troublesome writing, having sought quiet isolation in the Carolina Mountains. He had specifically asked for a boy or man to chop wood, implying an expectation of someone arriving at a different time or with some prior notice. Therefore, the sudden appearance of the boy, who seemed to have approached silently, broke the writer's concentration and peace.

The core reason for his startled reaction was the unusual silence of his dog. As a "pointer dog" and "companion," it was natural for the writer to expect his dog to be vigilant and alert him to the presence of any stranger. The fact that the boy had managed to approach the cabin and stand at the door without the dog barking to warn its owner was highly unexpected and unsettling for the writer, suggesting an unannounced and remarkably quiet arrival.
