Dear Oliver,

I hope this letter finds you well. I received your last email asking about the "July Revolution" that took place here in Bangladesh back in 2024. It’s hard to put into words because it was such an intense and emotional time for all of us, but I’ll try to give you a sense of what happened.

The movement actually started quite simply—students were protesting for a fair, merit-based system for government jobs, asking to reform the "quota" system. However, the situation escalated quickly when the then-government tried to suppress the peaceful protests with force.

One of the most defining moments was the sacrifice of a student named Abu Sayeed. He stood unarmed with his arms wide open in front of the police, and the footage of him being shot moved the entire nation. His bravery turned a student protest into a mass "People's Uprising." For weeks, the streets were filled with people from all walks of life—students, parents, and even rickshaw pullers—all demanding justice and an end to authoritarianism.

Despite a complete internet blackout and a nationwide curfew, the spirit of the people didn't break. On August 5th, which we now call "Long March to Dhaka," millions of people entered the capital. Realizing the scale of the revolution, the Prime Minister resigned and left the country. We call it our "Second Independence" because it felt like we finally reclaimed our right to speak and dream of a fair country.

Things are still transitioning, but there is a new sense of hope in the air. The youth are now more involved than ever in rebuilding the nation.
