যে sentence বা বাক্য দ্বারা আদেশ, উপদেশ, অনুরোধ ইত্যাদি প্রকাশ পায়, তাকে Imperative Sentence বলে।

যেমন—

(1) Take care of your health.

(ii) Let us go out for a walk.

[Note: Imperative Sentence-এ সচরাচর verb দ্বারা বাক্য শুরু হয় ।

Imperative Sentence (অনুজ্ঞা-সূচক বাক্য) হলো এমন এক ধরণের বাক্য যা দিয়ে আদেশ, উপদেশ, অনুরোধ, নিষেধ বা প্রস্তাব প্রকাশ করা হয়। এই ধরণের বাক্যের একটি প্রধান বৈশিষ্ট্য হলো এতে সাধারণত Subject (You) উহ্য বা গোপন থাকে এবং বাক্যটি সরাসরি Verb বা ক্রিয়া দিয়ে শুরু হয়। দৈনন্দিন জীবনে নির্দেশনা প্রদান বা কাউকে কোনো কাজ করতে বলার জন্য আমরা এই বাক্যগুলো ব্যবহার করি। বাক্যের শেষে সাধারণত একটি Full stop (.) বসে, তবে কখনো কখনো আবেগ বা জোরালো আদেশ বোঝাতে বিস্ময়সূচক চিহ্ন (!) ব্যবহৃত হতে পারে।

ইম্পারেটিভ সেন্টেন্সের ব্যবহারের সময় বক্তার কণ্ঠস্বর বা টোন গুরুত্বপূর্ণ ভূমিকা পালন করে। একই বাক্য পরিস্থিতির ওপর ভিত্তি করে আদেশ বা অনুরোধ হিসেবে গণ্য হতে পারে। ইংরেজি গ্রামারে সাবজেক্ট উহ্য রেখে সরাসরি কাজ বা অবস্থার ওপর গুরুত্ব দেওয়াই এই বাক্যের মূল উদ্দেশ্য। এটি শেখার মাধ্যমে শিক্ষার্থীরা খুব সহজেই ইংরেজিতে কমান্ড বা ইনস্ট্রাকশন দিতে সক্ষম হয়।
