Why are the example sentences given?

In a dictionary a verb word is given in the simple present form. But past and past participle are also given.

New words are formed by adding prefixes or suffixes to the root word.

The synomys and the antonyms are given to make the meaning clear and to give example.

We need a dictionary because it gives necessary information about words like spelling, pronunciation, meaning, parts of speech etc.
