Why did the author change direction while returning to his room?

The weather in mid-March in Delhi was usually pleasant, with clear skies and mild temperatures. It was a time when winter's chill was gone, and the summer heat had not started yet.

On March 17, 1978, an unexpected hailstorm hit North Delhi. This sudden event surprised everyone as it was unseasonal.

The author was in a library when the hailstorm started. He was studying there for his M.A. degree.

The author saw bicycles, scoters, lampposts, and even teastalls flying through the air. This sight left him astonished and terrified.

The author took shelter in a small balcony of a building. He crouched down and remained still until the cyclone passed.

The administrative building was severely damaged, and the glass-fronted entrance was shattered. Many people standing there were injured by the shards of broken glass.
