Kaptai Lake is the largest man-made freshwater lake in Bangladesh, located in the Chittagong Hill Tracts. It was created in the early 1960s by damming the Karnafuli River near Kaptai town to generate hydroelectric power. Its 'H'-shaped structure, fed by several streams including the Chengi, Kasalong, and Rinkhyong rivers, has significantly altered the landscape of the Rangamati district. Kaptai Lake spans over 58,000 hectares and has become a vital source of freshwater fish, producing over 7,000 tons annually.
