Frequent Road Accidents-It's Causes and Effects in Bangladesh
Frequent road accidents have become a serious concern in Bangladesh, claiming thousands of lives every year and leaving many injured or disabled. One of the main causes of road accidents is reckless driving by untrained or unlicensed drivers who ignore traffic rules. Over-speeding, overtaking in dangerous situations, and the use of mobile phones while driving are also major contributors. Poor road conditions, lack of proper traffic signals, and weak enforcement of traffic laws further worsen the situation. Overloaded and unfit vehicles add to the risks. Pedestrians too are often careless, crossing busy roads without using footbridges or zebra crossings.
The effects of road accidents are devastating. Families lose their loved ones, many of whom are the only earning members. Survivors often suffer permanent injuries, leading to emotional trauma and financial hardship. The country also suffers economically due to the loss of productive citizens and the burden of medical expenses. Frequent accidents create fear among the public and tarnish the image of the nation. To reduce road accidents, strict enforcement of traffic rules, driver training, vehicle fitness checks, and awareness campaigns are essential. Without immediate and effective action, this alarming issue will continue to claim innocent lives and hinder national progress.
