The Maldives is an island country with 1199 islands clustered into 26 atolls. It lies in the Indian Ocean and covers only 300 square kilometers. It is one of the smallest countries in the world.

Greenhouse gases, such as carbon dioxide, methane, and nitrous oxide, naturally trap heat in the Earth's atmosphere, a process vital for maintaining a habitable temperature. However, human activities have significantly increased the concentration of these gases. The primary culprits include the combustion of fossil fuels (coal, oil, and natural gas) for electricity generation, transportation, and industrial processes, which releases vast amounts of carbon dioxide. Additionally, deforestation contributes to the problem by reducing the number of trees that absorb CO2 from the atmosphere, while agricultural practices and industrial processes release other potent greenhouse gases like methane and nitrous oxide. These collective human actions are the main drivers behind the accelerated greenhouse effect and global warming.
