Recent Flood in Bangladesh

Bangladesh faced one of its worst floods in August 2024. Heavy rain began in mid-August and continued for days. The situation worsened when India released water from dams in Tripura, causing the floodwaters to rise quickly. The floods affected 11 districts in northeastern and southeastern Bangladesh, including Noakhali, Cumilla, Lakshmipur, and Chattogram. A total of 73 upazilas and 528 unions were severely impacted.

The rising water damaged homes, roads, schools, and farms, leaving more than 5.8 million people affected. People had to move to shelters for safety. The floodwaters also ruined agricultural fields, fishponds, and livestock, causing millions of dollars in damage. A huge amount of cropsisbere destroyed, making life even harder for farmers.

A few days later, India released even more water from the Farakka Barrage, worsening the situation in districts like Noakhali and Feni. By the end of August, the rain stopped, and the floodwater slowly began to go down. However, it took time for everything to return to normal.

During this crisis, the government, army, students, and organizations like the As-Sunnah Foundation worked hard to help flood victims. Many NGOs and volunteers provided food, clean water, and medical help. Foreign countries also offered support. Despite the hardships, the people of Bangladesh showed strength and unity, helping each other rebuild their lives.
