Dr. Muhammed Shahidullah, born on July 10, 1885, in 24 Pargonas, West Bengal, India, was a renowned scholar who made significant contributions to Bengali language and literature. He passed his Entrance exam in 1904 and completed his B.A., M.A., and Law degree in subsequent years. In 1921, he became a Professor of Sanskrit and Bengali at the University of Dhaka. In 1928, he earned a Doctorate from Sorbonne University, Paris. Dr. Shahidullah is best known for composing Bangla Shahitter Katha, the first comprehensive history of Bengali literature, which was published in 1953. He continued his scholarly work until his health deteriorated in 1967, leading to a two-and-a-half-year period of illness. He passed away on July 13, 1969, in Dhaka. Dr. Shahidullah is remembered with great respect for his immense contribution to Bengali culture and education.
