Neil Armstrong, an American astronaut and aerospace engineer, made history as the first person to walk on the moon. Born on August 05, 1930, in Wapakoneta, Ohio, he obtained his flight certificate at the young age of 15. He pursued higher education in Aeronautical and Aerospace Engineering, earning degrees from Purdue University and the University of Southern California. In 1958, Armstrong was selected for the US Airforce's man in space programme. His monumental achievement came on July 16, 1969, when he commanded the Apollo 11 mission. Four days later, he successfully landed on the moon, exploring its surface and collecting rock samples for over two hours before departing the following day.
