In all cultures, music is evident as a form of human behaviour. These behaviours vary widely. They are studied by scholars who may approach the study of music from these different yet overlapping perspectives. The study of music of other cultures, av well as own, can involve describing it in musical terms. The problem with this approach is that our musical language is no universal. It is geared to Western European musical concepts and cannot describe equally well music from other parts of the world. To study music in culture, however suggests much more describine music. It involves a consideration of the context of music in a society, music as it relates to human behaviour, and the genera! attitudes of the people about their music.
