ঢাকায় তথা বাংলাদেশে প্রথম বিদ্যুৎ ব্যবস্থা গড়ে উঠেছিল বিংশ শতকের প্রথম বছর। আর এর আর্থিক সকল ব্যবস্থা গ্রহণ করেছিলেন ঢাকার নবাব আহসানউল্লাহ। ৭ই ডিসেম্বর, ১৯০১ সালে প্রথম ঢাকার রাস্তায় বিদ্যুতের বাতি জ্বলে উঠে।
