<p>যে সকল শব্দ দ্বারা পুরুষ, স্ত্রী ও অচেতন বস্তুকে চিহ্নিত করা যায়, তাকে <strong>লিঙ্গ</strong> বলে। <strong>লিঙ্গ চার প্রকার</strong> যথা- </p><p><strong>1. পুংলিঙ্গ</strong></p><p><strong>2. স্ত্রীলিঙ্গ</strong></p><p><strong>3. ক্লীবলিঙ্গ</strong></p><p><strong>4. উভয় লিঙ্গ </strong></p><p>লিঙ্গ প্রসঙ্গে আর একটি কথা বিশেষভাবে মনে রাখতে হবে—কেবলমাত্র প্রাণীবাচক শব্দগুলি পুংলিঙ্গ অথবা স্ত্রীলিঙ্গের পর্যায়ে পড়ে। অপ্রাণীবাচক শব্দ ক্লীবলিগের অন্তর্গত। সংস্কৃত ব্যাকরণে উভয় লিঙ্গ বলে কোন কিছু নেই; কিন্তু ইংরেজি ব্যাকরণে Common Gender অর্থাৎ উভয় লিঙ্গ আছে।</p>
