A tank is filled in 5 hours by three pipes A, B and C . The pipe C is twice as fast as B and B is twice as fast as A. How much time will pipe A alone take to fill the tank?

Let, Pipe C need to fill the tank = x hours
Pipe B need to fill the tank = 2x hours
Pipe, A need to fill the tank = 4x hours
( A + B + C) together at 1 hour fill 1/5 portion
Again,
C fill the tank at 1 hour = 1/x portion
B fill the tank at 1 hour = 1/2x portion
A fill the tank at 1 hour = 1/4x portion
According to question,
1/x + 1/2x + 1/4x = 1/5
( 4 + 2 + 1)/4x = 1/5
7/4x = 1/5
4x = 35
x = 35/4
Pipe A take to fill the tank = 4x
= 4 × 35/4
= 35 hours
