সামাজিক মর্যাদাপূর্ণ দ্রব্যের ক্ষেত্রে চাহিদা বিধির ব্যতিক্রম লক্ষ্য করা যায়। এমন কিছু দ্রব্য আছে যেগুলোর দাম বৃদ্ধি পেলে সামাজিক মর্যাদা বা আভিজাত্য বৃদ্ধির আশায় লোক বেশি পরিমাণে ক্রয় করে। যেমনঃ হীরক, মণিমুক্তাখচিত অলঙ্কার, দামি গাড়ি ইত্যাদি। অর্থনীতিবিদ ভেবলেন এরূপ ভোগকে ‘বাহাড়াম্বরপূর্ণ ভোগ' আখ্যা দিয়েছেন। এক্ষেত্রে চাহিদা বিধিটি কার্যকর হয় না।
