CPU এর সাথে সরাসরি যুক্ত কম্পিউটারের অভ্যন্তরীণ স্মৃতিকে প্রধান স্মৃতি বলা হয় । ডাটা ইনপুট হিসেবে প্রবেশ করানোর পর তা প্রক্রিয়াকরণের সময় প্রধান স্মৃতিতে অবস্থান করে। যখন কম্পিউটার বন্ধ করা হয় তখন এ মেমরী হতে ডাটা মুছে যায় । তাই প্রধান মেমরীকে ভোলাটাইল মেমরীও বলা হয়।
প্রধান মেমরী দুই ধরণের হয়ঃ
০১. প্রাইমারী মেমোরী এবং ০২. সেকেন্ডারি মেমরি- স্টোরেজ ডিভাইস। মেমরি পরিমাপের একক হচ্ছে বাইট ।
