Adverbial Clause

যে clause টি verb কে modify করে তাকে Adverbial clause বলে। সাধারণত verb-কে when, where, why, how দ্বারা প্রশ্ন করলে প্রাপ্ত উত্তরটি Adverbial Clause হবে ।

Adverbial Clause হলো একগুচ্ছ শব্দ (Clause) যা বাক্যে একটি Adverb-এর মতো কাজ করে। এটি মূলত কোনো কাজ কখন, কোথায়, কীভাবে, কেন বা কোন শর্তে ঘটছে তা বর্ণনা করে। একটি Adverbial Clause-এ অবশ্যই একটি Subject এবং একটি Finite Verb থাকে।

১. মূল বৈশিষ্ট্যসমূহ:

• এটি সর্বদা একটি Subordinate Clause, অর্থাৎ এটি একা পূর্ণ অর্থ দেয় না।

• এটি সাধারণত একটি Subordinating Conjunction (যেমন: because, if, when, although) দিয়ে শুরু হয়।

• এটি বাক্যের Verb, Adjective অথবা অন্য কোনো Adverb-কে বিশেষায়িত করে।

২. বিভিন্ন প্রকার Adverbial Clause ও উদাহরণ:

ক) Adverbial Clause of Time (সময় নির্দেশক):

এটি কাজটি কখন ঘটে তা বোঝায়। (When, while, after, before, since, until, as soon as ইত্যাদি দিয়ে শুরু হয়)।

• উদাহরণ: I will call you when I reach home.

• উদাহরণ: As soon as the teacher entered, the students stood up.

খ) Adverbial Clause of Place (স্থান নির্দেশক):

এটি কাজটি কোথায় ঘটে তা বোঝায়। (Where, wherever দিয়ে শুরু হয়)।

• উদাহরণ: You can sit wherever you like.

গ) Adverbial Clause of Cause/Reason (কারণ নির্দেশক):

এটি কোনো কাজের কারণ ব্যাখ্যা করে। (Because, as, since, that দিয়ে শুরু হয়)।

• উদাহরণ: He could not attend the meeting because he was ill.

ঘ) Adverbial Clause of Condition (শর্ত নির্দেশক):

এটি কোনো কাজের শর্ত বোঝায়। (If, unless, provided that দিয়ে শুরু হয়)।

• উদাহরণ: If you work hard, you will succeed.

• উদাহরণ: Do not go out unless you wear a mask.

ঙ) Adverbial Clause of Purpose (উদ্দেশ্য নির্দেশক):

এটি কাজের উদ্দেশ্য বোঝায়। (So that, in order that, lest ইত্যাদি দিয়ে শুরু হয়)।

• উদাহরণ: We eat so that we may live.

• উদাহরণ: Walk fast lest you should miss the train.

চ) Adverbial Clause of Concession (বিপরীত ভাব নির্দেশক):

এটি দুটি বিপরীত বিষয়ের মধ্যে সম্পর্ক বোঝায়। (Though, although, even if দিয়ে শুরু হয়)।

• উদাহরণ: Although he is poor, he is honest.

৩. Adverbial Clause চেনার উপায়:

বাক্যের মূল Verb-টিকে 'কখন', 'কোথায়', 'কেন' বা 'কীভাবে' দিয়ে প্রশ্ন করলে যে খণ্ডবাক্যটি উত্তর হিসেবে পাওয়া যায়, সেটিই Adverbial Clause।
