<p>let Father's age X</p> <p>Son's age Y</p> <p>then X + Y = 42..... (1)</p> <p>and, X - Y = 22...... (2)</p> <p>By subtracting from equation 1 to 2, </p> <p>X + Y - (X - Y) = 42 - 22</p> <p>X + Y - X + Y = 20</p> <p>2Y = 20</p> <p>Y = 10 (Son's age)</p>
