কোনো word এর প্রথমে consonant থাকলে a বসে। A book.
• কিন্তু প্রথমে consonant থাকলেও উচ্চারণ যদি vowel এর মত হলে an An honest, An hour, An umbrella.
•শব্দের শুরুতে থাকা n এর উচ্চারণ 'হ' হলে তবে a বসে। A hero কিন্তু যদি শব্দের শুরুতে h থাকে এবং "ও" এর মত উচ্চারিত হয় তাহলে an বসে। An honourable, an heir
যেসব শব্দ Noun বা Pronoun-এর পূর্বে বসে তার সাথে বাক্যের অন্যান্য শব্দের সম্পর্ক দেখিয়ে দেয় তাদেরকে Preposition বলে।

সাধারণ Preposition গুলো হচ্ছে: at above, across. against, among, after, before, beside below, behind, beyond, between, by, down, for, from, in, into, like, near, of, on, over, outside, out, since, to, towards, through, up, upon, with, within, without.
