Subjunctive verb-এর একটি special form. এর structure টা খুব সহজ। present tense-এর ক্ষেত্রে infinitive থেকে to বাদ দিলে যেই verb টা থাকে সেটা হল subjunctive. Subjunctive- এর ক্ষেত্রে parson-এর কোন প্রভাব থাকে না। অর্থাৎ parson যাই থাকুক না কেন verb-এর কোন পরিবর্তন হবে না। এর কারণ হল subjunctive এর verb-টি এখানে main verb নয়।

সংক্ষেপে বলতে গেলে Subjunctive হল বিশেষ কিছু verb, Noun এবং expression কে বোঝায় যারা বাক্যে verb এর বিশেষ অবস্থা গ্রহণ করে অর্থাৎ verb এর সাথে Auxiliary / s, es / ing / past form হয় না।

এরা কোন Sentence এ ব্যবহৃত হলে সে Sentence টির অর্থ দাড়ায় that যুক্ত clause এর subject কাজটি ( that যুক্ত clause এর verb টি) সম্পাদন করুক।

Example: The teacher advises that Mina learn the lesson.

নিচের এই word গুলোকে subjunctive বলেঃ

1. The list of verbs: ask / demand/ desire / insist / prefer/propose / recommend/request/ require / suggest/urge etc
2. The list of Nouns: demand / insistence / preference / proposal / recommendation / request / requirement /
   suggestion etc
3. The list of expression: essential / imperative / important / necessary / urgent etc

Subjunctive ব্যবহারের নিয়মঃ

Rule 1. That clause যখন active voice: That clause এর verb-টি active voice এ থাকলে শুধু base form বা present form বসবে। কোন auxiliary verb ব্যবহার করা যাবে না। অর্থাৎ (subjunctive word-------+ that + sub+ verb ( base form) + ext.)

Example: The doctor suggested that his patient stop smoking

We proposed that Rony take a vacation

She ignored the suggestion that she get more exercise.

It is necessary that he find the books

It was urgent that she leave at once.

Rule 2. That clause যখন passive voice: That clause এর verb টি passive voice এ থাকলে শুধু be+ verb (past participle form) বসবে। কোন Auxiliary verb ব্যবহার করা যাবে না। অর্থাৎ (Subjunctive world----+ that + sub+ verb (base participle form) + ext.)

Example: The doctor suggested that smoking be given up

Rule 3. That clause যখন negative: That clause এর verb টি negative হলে not + verb (base form) বসবে। কোন auxiliary verb ব্যবহার করা যাবে না। অর্থাৎ Subjunctive world --------- that + sub+ not+ verb (base form) + ext.)

Example: The doctor suggested that he not smoke

I propose that the teachers not attend the students' gathering.
