The term Middle English literature refers to the literature written in the form of the English language known as Middle English, from the late 12th century until the 1470s. During this time the Chancery Standard, a form of London-based English, became widespread and the printing press regularized the language.
Middle English Period (1066-1500) নরমান বিজয়ের পরবর্তী কাল। Norman Duke William এর নামে নামকরণ করা হয়, তার ইংল্যান্ড দখলের পরবর্তী বছরগুলোতে।
The Middle English Period কে তিনটি ছোট ছোট ভাগে ভাগ করা হয় :
1. The Anglo-Norman Period (1066-1340): (অ্যাংলো-নরমান যুগ)
2. The Age of Chaucer (1340-1400) (চসারের কাল)
3. Age of Barren or Dark Age (1400-1500)
এই এই সময়কালের শুরুর দিকের তেমন কোন তথ্য পাওয়া যায় না বলে এই সময়কে Dark Ages ও বলে।
