Translation

অনুবাদ একটি অতি সূক্ষ্ম ও জটিল বিষয়। কারণ, কোনো ভাষা পুরোপুরি আয়ত্ত করার পরই কেবল অনুবাদে হাত দেয়া সম্ভব। তবে ন্যূনতম ভাষাজ্ঞান যাচাইয়ের জন্য বিভিন্ন প্রতিযোগিতামূলক পরীক্ষায় অনুবাদ একটি বহুল ব্যবহৃত মাধ্যম। অনুবাদ প্রধানত দুই প্রকার ১. আক্ষরিক অনুবাদ ও ২. ভাবানুবাদ। প্রাথমিকভাবে আক্ষরিক অনুবাদের ওপর জোর দেয়া হলেও যেখানে ভাবানুবাদ প্রযোজ্য সেখানে আক্ষরিক অনুবাদ করা রীতিমতো বেমানান ও হাস্যকর। যেমন- That's a long story- 'সেটা অনেক দীর্ঘ গল্প' এই আক্ষরিক অনুবাদের চেয়ে ভাবানুবাদ 'সে অনেক কথা' বেশি সাবলীল ও শ্রুতিমধুর। তেমনিভাবে একটি শব্দের একাধিক অর্থ সম্বন্ধে ধারণা রাখা উচিত। Passage Translation-এর ক্ষেত্রে পারিভাষিক শব্দগুলো জানা অত্যাবশ্যক।

অনুবাদ কৌশল : Translation বা অনুবাদ করার সময় নিম্নোক্ত কৌশলগুলো অবলম্বন করা যেতে পারে।

১. Tense-এর ব্যবহার: অনুবাদের প্রধান কৌশল হচ্ছে Tense-এর বিভিন্ন Structure ব্যবহার করা।

A. অতীতে সংঘটিত কোনো কাজের বর্তমান প্রাসঙ্গিকতা থাকলে তা Present Perfect Tense দ্বারা প্রকাশ করা হয় ।

B. বর্তমানে কোনো কাজ হচ্ছে বোঝাতে Present Continuous Tense ব্যবহৃত হয়।

C. অতীতে কোনো কাজ শুরু হয়ে অদ্যাবধি চলছে এবং ভবিষ্যতেও চলতে পারে এরূপ বোঝাতে Present Perfect Continuous Tense ব্যবহার করতে হয়। সেক্ষেত্রে বাংলায় যাবৎ, ধরে, হতে, থেকে ইত্যাদি শব্দগুলো এবং ইংরেজিতে অনির্দিষ্ট সময়ের পূর্বে for ও নির্দিষ্ট সময়ের আগে since বসে।

D. Present Perfect Tense বর্তমান সময়ের সাথে সম্পর্কিত, তাই এতে অতীতজ্ঞাপক শব্দ (যেমন- yesterday, ago, etc.) উল্লেখ করা যাবে না, বাক্যে যতই ইয়াছি, ইয়াছে, ইয়াছেন থাকুক না কেন। সেক্ষেত্রে Past Indefinite Tense ব্যবহার করতে হবে।

E. পরপর সংঘটিত অতীতের দুটি ঘটনার মধ্যে যেটি আগে ঘটে সেটি Past Perfect অন্যটি হয় Past Indefinite. সেক্ষেত্রে Before-এর পূর্বে ও After-এর পরে
Past Perfect বসে।

F. ভবিষ্যতে সংঘটিতব্য দুটি কাজের মধ্যে একটির পূর্বে অন্যটি সম্পাদিত হয়ে থাকলে সম্পাদিত কাজটি Future Perfect Tense হয়, অন্যটি হয় Present Indefinite অথবা Future Indefinite.

২. Phrasal Verb-এর ব্যবহার একটি Verb আলাদাভাবে এক অর্থ দেয় কিন্তু তা Phrasal Verb তথা Group Verb হলে অন্য অর্থ প্রদান করে।

A. Tell মানে 'বলা' কিন্তু Tell upon অর্থ ক্ষতি করা।

B. Take অর্থ নেয়া, গ্রহণ করা কিন্তু Take after মানে সাদৃশ্য থাকা, অনুরূপ হওয়া বা, দেখতে একই রকম হওয়া।

C. Cry অর্থ কান্নাকাটি করা, চিৎকার করা তবে Cry down অর্থ খাটো করে দেখা।

D. Set অর্থ স্থাপন করা, ঠিকঠাক করা কিন্তু Set in অর্থ আরম্ভ করা, শুরু হওয়া।

E. Hail অর্থ শুভেচ্ছা জানানো, অভিনন্দিত করা কিন্তু hail from অর্থ- কোথাও থেকে আসা।

৩. Phrase & idioms-এর ব্যবহার: যে কোনো Idiom-এর শব্দগুলো পরিচিত মনে হলেও আসলে তার অর্থ কল্পনার বাইরে। তাই বিভিন্ন Idiom-এর প্রকৃত অর্থ মুখস্থ রাখা আবশ্যক। এখানে কতিপয় উদাহরণ দেয়া হলো।

A. To leave no stone unturned অর্থ যথাসাধ্য/ আপ্রাণ চেষ্টা করা, চেষ্টার ত্রুটি না করা।

B. To catch somebody red handed অর্থ কাউকে হাতেনাতে ধরা।

C. Go to the dogs- অর্থ গোল্লায় যাওয়া, নষ্ট/ বখাটে হওয়া।

D. Tell অর্থ 'বলা' কিন্তু Telling speech অর্থ 'কার্যকর বক্তৃতা'।

E. Live from hand to mouth অর্থ দিন আনে দিন খায়।

F. Ring অর্থ আংটি বা বৃত্ত, চক্র কিন্তু Ring leader অর্থ পালের গোদা, দলনেতা।

G. Make way for অর্থ কাউকে জায়গা করে দেয়া, যেতে দেয়া।

H. At stake অর্থ সংকটাপন্ন

৪. Preposition-এর ব্যবহার: বিভিন্ন শব্দের সাথে বিভিন্ন Preposition বসে। অনুবাদ করার সময় বিষয়টি মাথায় রাখতে হবে।

A. Die of- কোনো রোগের কারণে মারা যাওয়া।

B. Live - বাস করা, বাঁচা কিন্তু কোনো কিছুর উপর নির্ভর করে বাঁচা হলো- Live on.

C. Come অর্থ আসা। কিন্তু Come from কোনো জায়গা থেকে আসা, যা ঐ ব্যক্তির বাসস্থান/জন্মস্থান নির্দেশ করে।

D. 'Across' prepositionটি আড়াআড়িভাবে অতিক্রম করতে ব্যবহৃত হয়।

E. 'দুইয়ের মধ্যে' বোঝাতে Between এবং 'দুইয়ের অধিক' এর ক্ষেত্রে Among ব্যবহৃত হয়।

৫. Causative Verb: কোনো কাজ নিজে না করে অন্যকে দিয়ে করানো বোঝাতে Causative verb হিসেবে make/get/have ব্যবহৃত হয়। এর Structure-টি হচ্ছে get/ have + Complement (বস্তুবাচক) + v-এর Past Participle অথবা make + complement + v এর present form.

A. কিন্তু কিছু Verb আছে যেগুলো অর্থগতভাবেই Causative। যেমন- Eat অর্থ খাওয়া কিন্তু Feed অর্থ খাওয়ানো। তেমনি He is walking the baby- সে বাচ্চাটিকে হাঁটাচ্ছে।

৬. Present Participle-এর ব্যবহার: নাচতে নাচতে, হাসতে হাসতে, কাঁদতে কাঁদতে ইত্যাদি প্রকাশ করতে Present participle ব্যবহৃত হয়।

৭. অবাস্তব আকাঙ্ক্ষা : কোনো অসম্ভব বা অবাস্তব আকাঙ্ক্ষা প্রকাশ করতে নিম্নোক্ত Structure গুলো ব্যবহৃত হয়।
