Case-1 : Shariah-based bank mergers.
Case Scenario: In a significant effort to stabilize Bangladesh's troubled Islamic Banking sector, the newly formed Sammilito Islamic Bank, receiving final approval and its operating license from Bangladesh Bank, created through the merger of five distressed Shariah-based banks, has formally begun operations. Bangladesh Bank described the merger as a critical turning point, saying it will strengthen depositor confidence and speed up the long-delayed process of returning stuck funds. Under the deposit protection ordinance 2025, deposits up to Tk. 2 lakh are fully protected and will be paid out shortly. A repayment plan for larger deposits will be announced once the merger process is completed. The Central Bank reiterated that no depositor would lose money. The new entity is now the country's largest state-owned Shariah-based bank. Backed by improved governance, government capital support and enhanced regulatory oversight, the newly combined bank is expected to emerge as a modern, competitive Shariah-based institution capable of restoring public trust.
