Every Thursday afternoon Ashish Biswash plays football. He is a striker. He plays for the local Friends Club. Do you want to know what else he does on other days? This is what Ashish says: "Friday and Saturday are my weekends. On Fridays, I go to my village home. Going home is really a wonderful experience. My mother waits for me there.

In the afternoon, I go cycling with my friends. Sometimes I go for a long walk. Next day I get up a little late. In the afternoon I play kabadi. In fact, I was a kabadi player during my school days.

From Sunday to Thursday I go to the club at 7 o'clock in the morning. It's the time for our regular practice. So I have to get up by 6 o'clock. Rabindranath Tagore is one of the greatest poets of Bangla literature. Bengali culture and literature is unthinkable without the presence of this personality. He travelled all the branches of literature equally and successfully. Rabindranath was born on 7 May, 1861 at Jorasanko, Kolkata, India. Tagore's childhood days were mostly confined to the family estate under the watchful eyes of the servants. He lost his mother when he was only 13.

At the age of 22 on 9 December, 1883 Tagore married Mrinalini. He had received Nobel Prize in 1913 for Gitanjali and introduced Bangalees to the rest of the world. In 1915, he was bestowed a knighthood by the British. Rabindranath Tagore died in 1941 at the age of 80. We remember him with great respect.

Begum Rokeya was born in 1880 at Pairabondh, a village in the district of Rangpur. Her family was very conservative. Yet she received her education in English and Bengali from her elder brother, Ibrahim Sabir. In 1896, at the age of 16, Rokeya was married to Sakhawat Hossain. He was pleased to see the eagerness of his wife for education. In 1909, Sakhawat. Hossain died. After the death of her husband, Rokeya started the Sakhawat Memorial Girls' School at Bhagalpur. But the local people opposed it. She, therefore, left Bhagalpur for Calcutta and in 1911, she started the Sakhawat Memorial Girls' School in Calcutta with only 8 female students. In 1917, Lady Chamsford, wife of the then Viceroy of India, visited the school. It was then upgraded to a High English School. In 1931, three girl students appeared at the Entrance Examination under the Calcutta University. The school still stands at the heart of the city of Calcutta. In 1916, Begum Rokeya established the Muslim Mahila Samity in Calcutta. Begum Rokeya was a writer also. Through her pen, she tried to awaken the Muslim women of the Indian subcontinent. In 1932, on the 9th December she died at the age of 52. At her death, the country plunged into a deep grief.
