Let the initial bus fare and number of passengers be X and Y respectively.

Then initial revenue = XY.

Decreased bus fare = X - 15% of X = X - 0.15X = 0.85X

Number of passengers = Y + 40% of Y = Y + 0.4Y = 1.4Y

New total revenue = 0.85X × 1.4Y = 1.19XY

Increase in revenue = (1.19XY - XY) / (XY) × 100% = 19%
