An appositive phrase is a noun, noun phrase, or series of nouns that renames the noun next to it.

Appositive Phrase হলো একগুচ্ছ শব্দ যা কোনো Noun বা Pronoun-এর ঠিক পাশে বসে তাকে পুনরায় শনাক্ত করে বা তার সম্পর্কে অতিরিক্ত তথ্য প্রদান করে। এটি মূলত আগের Noun-টির একটি ভিন্ন নাম বা পরিচয় হিসেবে কাজ করে।
১. মূল বৈশিষ্ট্যসমূহ:
এটি সাধারণত একটি Noun বা Noun Phrase দিয়ে গঠিত হয়।
এটি বাক্যের মূল Noun-টির ঠিক পরেই বসে।
বেশিরভাগ ক্ষেত্রে Appositive Phrase-টিকে মূল বাক্য থেকে আলাদা করতে এর আগে এবং পরে কমা (,) ব্যবহার করা হয়।
এটি বাক্য থেকে সরিয়ে নিলেও বাক্যের মূল অর্থ অপরিবর্তিত থাকে।
২. বাক্যে ব্যবহারের উদাহরণ:
ক) নির্দিষ্ট পরিচয় দিতে:
উদাহরণ: Nazrul, our national poet, was born in Churulia.
ব্যাখ্যা: এখানে 'our national poet' অংশটি 'Nazrul' সম্পর্কে অতিরিক্ত তথ্য দিচ্ছে।
খ) বর্ণনা দিতে:
উদাহরণ: Dhaka, the capital of Bangladesh, is a busy city.
ব্যাখ্যা: এখানে 'the capital of Bangladesh' অংশটি 'Dhaka' শব্দটিকে পুনরায় পরিচয় করিয়ে দিচ্ছে।
গ) বাক্যের শেষে ব্যবহার:
উদাহরণ: I am reading a book by Humayun Ahmed, a famous writer.
ব্যাখ্যা: এখানে 'a famous writer' অংশটি বাক্যের শেষে বসে Humayun Ahmed-কে বিশেষায়িত করছে।
৩. Appositive Phrase চেনার উপায়:
আপনি যদি বাক্যের কোনো অংশকে (ব্র্যাকেটে থাকা তথ্যের মতো) সরিয়ে ফেলেন এবং তারপরেও বাক্যটি পূর্ণাঙ্গ অর্থ প্রকাশ করে, তবে সেই অংশটিই Appositive।
যেমন: Mr. Rahim, my English teacher, is very kind.
অংশটি বাদ দিলে: Mr. Rahim is very kind. (এটি একটি পূর্ণাঙ্গ বাক্য)।
