Gerund Phrase হলো এমন একগুচ্ছ শব্দ যা একটি Gerund (Verb + ing) এবং তার সাথে সম্পর্কিত অন্যান্য শব্দ (Object বা Modifier) নিয়ে গঠিত হয়। এটি বাক্যে সর্বদা একটি Noun হিসেবে কাজ করে।
১. গঠন (Structure):
Verb-ing + Object/Modifier
উদাহরণ: Reading (Gerund) books (Object).
উদাহরণ: Walking (Gerund) slowly (Modifier).
২. বাক্যে ব্যবহারের ধরন ও ভূমিকা:
ক) বাক্যের Subject (কর্তা) হিসেবে:
যখন কোনো Gerund Phrase বাক্যের শুরুতে বসে সাবজেক্টের কাজ করে।
উদাহরণ: Swimming in the river is a good exercise.
ব্যাখ্যা: এখানে 'Swimming in the river' পুরো অংশটি বাক্যের সাবজেক্ট।
খ) Verb-এর Object (কর্ম) হিসেবে:
যখন এটি কোনো মূল ভার্বের পরে বসে অবজেক্টের কাজ করে।
উদাহরণ: I enjoy listening to music.
ব্যাখ্যা: এখানে 'listening to music' অংশটি 'enjoy' ভার্বের অবজেক্ট।
গ) Preposition-এর Object হিসেবে:
Preposition-এর ঠিক পরেই যখন Gerund Phrase বসে।
উদাহরণ: He is fond of playing cricket.
ব্যাখ্যা: এখানে 'of' প্রিপজিশনটির অবজেক্ট হিসেবে 'playing cricket' বসেছে।
ঘ) Complement হিসেবে:
যখন এটি বাক্যের অর্থ পূর্ণ করতে সাহায্য করে।
উদাহরণ: My hobby is collecting stamps.
৩. Gerund Phrase বনাম Participle Phrase:
